APT’s First Ever Job Fair

February 24, 2024 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Are you looking to hire guides, docents, or volunteers for tours, museums, or historic sites? Or are you a history and culture enthusiast seeking a position? The Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) is organizing its first ever job fair on Saturday, February 24, scheduled for 1:30-4:30 pm at Old First Reformed United Church of Christ in Old City. The event will be held in conjunction with the APT yearly training program (Feb. 22-25). Special thanks to the event’s gold sponsor, Visit Philly!

With the hole left by guides and docents who did not return to their positions post-Covid and the influx of tourists expected in the next few years with the semiquincentennial and other important anniversaries, there is a great need for tour guides and other historic interpreters in Philadelphia. Whether you are an employer or employee, the APT job fair aims to give you the best chance for success.

Attendance at the job fair and participation as a vendor are free for APT individual and corporate members. If you are not currently a member and would like to join, more information is here. It is not required to become a member to participate in the job fair as a vendor or attendee.

For non-member vendors wishing to have a table at the job fair, the cost is $150 for tour companies offering paid positions and $50 for nonprofits seeking volunteers. The cost is per 8′ table and organizations are welcome to join together and share space. (If you decide to do this, please email Marianne at vicepresident@phillyguides.org so that all vendors are listed in the promotional materials.) Payment can be made in the APT Store. APT corporate members who wish to have a table at the job fair must fill out the google registration form they were sent to reserve a place. The deadline to reserve a vendor table is February 16.

For non-members seeking a paid or volunteer position, the cost to attend is $5. Payment can be made in the APT Store. Walk ups can also make cash payments at the door. For non-members who purchase the complete training program, attendance at the job fair is included.  APT members planning to attend the job fair – whether attending any of the training program or not – do not need to pre-register.

Special bronze sponsorship opportunity for APT members! For $50 each, payable in the APT Store, members can have their names listed as Job Fair Bronze Sponsors on the vendor list that will be distributed to all participants and vendors at the Job Fair. All sponsors will also be listed on the website. It’s a great way for APT members to support their organization while getting some extra exposure for work opportunities. Deadline to secure a sponsorship is Friday, Feb. 16.

Get your resume ready for the event at APT’s workshop “How to Write a Resume (for Tour Guides & Docents)” on Thursday, January 25. This event has passed. The recording is still available for $5 (same price for members or non-members) in the APT Store.
