How to Use the Greater Philadelphia GeoHistory Network

May 22, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Event has been rescheduled for Monday May 22, 5 pm, at the Athenaeum.

The Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold its next “How To” session in person at the Athenaeum of Philadelphia on Monday, May 15, promptly at 5 pm. APT members will be taught how to use the Greater Philadelphia GeoHistory Network, a rich resource for any tour guide.

The Greater Philadelphia GeoHistory Network website contains thousands of old maps, property atlases, city directories, industrial site surveys, and other items documenting the history and development of the city from the 1600s through today. This Network provides the infrastructure and the information necessary to understand historic materials within the context of place and time.

APT members are encouraged to seize this rare opportunity to learn from the creators themselves how to do research using this rich resource. We thank APT member Jim Murphy and The Athenaeum’s Bruce Laverty for suggesting and arranging this special in-person tutorial event.

Seats are limited to the first 12 members who register by emailing mike@phillyguides.org . The cost is $5 for APT members and $8 for non-members and can be paid through the APT store using the “How To” series buttons.

It is suggested, though not required, that participants bring a laptop or similar device to this class.
