Philly Tour Guides Prepare for 2026 with Street Training, Workshops & Job Fair
New and experienced guides are invited  to programs that run February 22-25

PHILADELPHIA, January 26, 2024 – When the U.S. celebrates its 250th birthday or Semiquincentennial in 2026, Philly’s tour guides need to be ready with accurate, complete and inclusive information for our many expected guests.

So the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) is working now to make that happen.

Marianne Ruane (pronounced Roo-ON) president of the group, says APT has put together a program designed to help train both new and experienced guides.

In addition, APT will hold its first-ever job fair, bringing together tour guides and tour-related companies and historic organizations who will need guides and docents.

If you’ve ever thought that you’d make a great tour guide, here’s your chance to learn more about Philly … and make some great tour company contacts.

3 new on-street training tours, 2 new workshops, Saturday morning update on Semiquincentennial, first-ever job fair and more

Each year, APT runs an annual training and certification program.

This year it’s added several things: new training tours on Northern Liberties, the Avenue of the Founders and the Civil War; a new presentation on the 1838 Black Metropolis, plus workshops on storytelling and designing a tour; a panel of experts discussing the latest plans to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026; and a job fair that brings together new and experienced guides with tour companies and other organizations who’ll need them as we move into 2025 and 2026.

VisitPhilly is the primary sponsor for APT’s job fair.
