New training program for Philly Tour Guides is open to the public
Lectures & tours run Nov. 13 to 16
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 23, 2025 – If you love to learn and talk about Philadelphia history, here’s your chance to grow your knowledge and wow everyone visiting in 2026 during the U.S. Semiquincentennial, our country’s 250th birthday.
Whether you’re young, old, or middle-aged, register now for the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides’ 2025 Fall Training Program. Its title: “19th Century Growing Pains or We the People … Now What?”
A new look at the 19th century
Marianne Ruane, president of the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT), says, “Instead of focusing on the Revolution, we’re looking at the 19th century. This program covers the growing pains and struggles we had in those turbulent times … trying to put our ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution into practice to build a more just nation.”
Topics include: the 1844 bible riots, 1838 Black Metropolis, the Centennial Exposition of 1876, industrialization, the bank war, immigration, the Civil War, and more.
Discounts: Non-members can save money by joining APT now and getting member prices. You can purchase individual tickets or a complete package.
Cost: Check out the complete training program description to figure out the best combination of events and pricing for you. If you’re interested in going, you need to sign up soon. Attendance is limited.
The full package, 9 events PLUS a full-day bus tour to Fairmount Park, is $100 members/$150 non-members. You can also choose individual tour or lecture events ($15 member/$25 non-member) with or without the full bus day ($50/$70).
Note: If you sign up for the complete package, you’ll receive instructions on how to RSVP for individual events you want to attend. You must do this ASAP, since walking tour events are limited to the first 25 registrants and the bus, the first 50.
