Join us for a two-hour walking tour that brings Philadelphia’s pivotal role in the American Revolution to life! Starting at the historic Arch Street Meeting House (320 Arch Street), we’ll explore the stories of the “Fighting Quakers” and other remarkable Philadelphians who helped shape a set of 13 separate colonies into a nation and world superpower. You’ll not only hear about local naval and marine heroes from the Revolution such as Samual Nicolas, John Barry, Joshua Humpries, and Gustavus Conyngham. We’ll also honor the courageous men and women in subsequent wars such as Stephen Decatur, Uriah Levy, Smedley Butler and Harriet Tubman to name a few.
While our journey is on foot to some of the most significant landmarks, we’ll point out and discuss other significant landmarks throughout the city that are beyond our walking path. Of course, no tour of Philadelphia would be complete without celebrating the city’s two most iconic figures: William Penn and Benjamin Franklin and their influence in formation of this city and country. Come walk with us, where history was made and discover the stories of those who fought to forge a new nation and a more perfect union.
This is a joint effort between Jim Murphy of Jim Murphy Communications and Antoinette Langeveld of It’s A Philly Thing Tours. We have combined forces to provide a well rounded perspective to demonstrate the immense contribution to the war effort by so many heroic Philadelphians.
