The Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) is organizing a field trip to the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, Delaware on July 10, 10 am – 3 pm. Let’s cross state lines and enjoy some time together, while exploring the magnificent Hagley Museum located in the heart of the Brandywine Valley, a.k.a. chateaux country. We’ll step into the rich legacy of the DuPont family and visit the site of the family’s original gunpowder manufacturing mill, founded by E.I. DuPont in 1802. We’ll also visit the DuPont family’s first ancestral home and gardens, situated in a beautiful, natural outdoor setting.

Then we’ll check out the Hagley Museum’s new exhibition, A Nation of Inventors, with more than 120 patents from the private DuPont collection, highlighting inventors across the globe.

We’ll then travel to downtown Wilmington to break for lunch at DE.CO,  a food court inside the historic and iconic Hotel DuPont. The Hotel, a twelve-story Italian Renaissance masterpiece, was built in 1913. Its grand lobby has been restored, with a successful and stunning mix of old and new. Lunch is on our own.

If time permits, we’ll leave there and walk to Market Street where we can stroll and take in the vibrant Renaissance vibes while getting a glimpse of the local businesses, award-winning restaurants, the Grand Opera, the Archives, the Historical Society, awesome architecture, art galleries, and the locals of course!
