The Frenchest American City – Walking Tour

A Walk in the Frenchest City in America!
APT member Elise Bromberg has graciously offered to lead a complimentary 90-minute walking tour for members of the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT). Her tour, “The French Influence in Philadelphia,” will be offered on Friday, September 12, from 11 am to 12:30 pm. It starts in front of The Thinker sculpture at the Rodin Museum (2151 Ben Franklin Parkway) and ends at the courtyard at City Hall.
Philadelphia has the proud distinction of being one of just eight destinations in the United States with its own Michelin Green Guide. Michelin described Philadelphia as the “Frenchest American city.” The editors praise how the city “offers the perfect compromise between American excess and European spirit, not to mention all the appeal of a city packed with art, history, and a cultural effervescence few people expect.” Elise’s tour explains how it all began with the first wave of Huguenot immigrants in William Penn’s time 1685, to the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), to the émigrés from the reign of terror (French Revolution 1793-1798), to the architectural influences in the 1800s-1900s, to the cultural and culinary influences in more recent to current history. Join Elise to look at the significant historic, cultural, architectural, and culinary French imprints on this beautiful city!
The tour is free to APT members and is limited to 5-10 guests. To register, contact Elise at elisebromberg@hotmail.com. Please join us!
