Tour Guide Peer Review
March 5 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
On Sunday March 5, 1-3 pm, the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold a workshopping event for tour guides. At the Old City sites of Christ Church and Franklin Court, two guides will share what they say on tour at that site, and then all of the participants will discuss. The idea is not so much to critique the presentations as it is to explore what was said, what else could be said, is what is said now the same as a few years ago (why or why not), and what could be added or enhanced to punctuate the importance of the site. How can what is told there be more inclusive? If there is limited time, what are the key points to convey? What can be expanded upon if there is more time? How might the story there be adapted to different audiences?
All guides are invited to come together for lunch beforehand at Campo’s at 11:45. The workshopping event will start at 1 pm outside of Christ Church on Church St. (where the farmer’s market is in the summer and fall, between Christ Church and ‘Wilson Park’ which is more commonly known as the dog park). The plan is for 2 guides to speak at both sites for 10-15 min. each with 20-30 min. for discussion. The event will end at Franklin Court by 3 pm.
This event is meant for experienced guides to workshop the tours they are already (and have been) doing. There is no cost to attend. To register, please contact Marianne Ruane at and let her know if you are interested in presenting at one of the sites. Again, it is not meant to be a stressful test but an opportunity to explore how all guides can make their tours better and more relevant to the world we are living in now. Those not interested in presenting are still encouraged to attend in order to listen and add to the discussion.
The intention is to hold these on a regular basis. Please join the inaugural event and help make it great for future participants!
