On Wednesday March 16 (please note that this month the meeting is NOT on the usual second Wednesday), the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold its monthly meeting, on Zoom. It kicks off at 7 pm with a talk about Revolutionary War soldier Deborah Samson by her descendant, himself transgender, author Alex Myers.

NOTE: Alex Myers’ historical novel, Revolutionary, is the book for the next book club meeting on Tuesday April 19.

Following the presentation will be an APT business meeting and some social zoom time.

Alex Myers teaches English at Phillips Exeter Academy. Since coming out as transgender in 1995, he has worked with schools to help them support transgender students and become more gender inclusive. Alex is also a novelist, whose works explore gender, identity, and history. His novels include Revolutionary, Continental Divide, and The Story of Silence. His most recent book, Supporting Transgender Students is a guide to help schools learn the basics of what gender is and why it matters in education.

APT meetings are open to aspiring and working tour guides as well as anyone with an interest in Philadelphia-focused history. Attend one meeting for free and then it is $50 to join the association for the year or $10 per monthly meeting in-person event. Zoom meetings are free.
