“Monuments in Public Space: Philadelphia’s Statuary” with Dick Furstein

On Wed. July 22, the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) offers a lecture by director-at-large Dick Furstein, “Monuments in Public Space: A History of Philadelphia’s Statuary.” His talk explores monuments in Philadelphia from the pre-European period to the present day. It will focus on how and why specific people and concepts have been immortalized in our public space, and what this moment in time can tell us about the future of civic statuary. The talk will be followed by some social zoom time.

Dick is a graduate in anthropology from Drexel University and has been guiding with Philadelphia Urban Adventures since 2018. He is fluent in Spanish and specializes in the history of public transportation in Philadelphia.
