Meet Minister Richard Allen & 1790s Teacher Helena Harris

February 9, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Watch the recording on APT’s YouTube Channel.

On Wed. February 9, the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold its monthly meeting. It kicks off at 7 pm with first person interpretations from members Bob Branch who portrays minister Richard Allen and Kalela Harris who plays 1790s teacher Helena Harris. A question and answer session will follow – a great opportunity to learn about this fascinating work! Following the presentations will be a game in which members will learn more about each other. (Any member who has not submitted a one line description is encouraged to send it in to APT Vice President Marianne Ruane as soon as possible.)

For the last 10 years, Bob Branch has worked primarily as a storyteller, writer, tour guide, and first person interpreter (Octavius Catto, Robert Smalls, William Still, and most recently, Richard Allen) for Historic Philadelphia. You may have caught him as Octavius Catto at APT’s River to River Great Tour or the 10th Anniversary Party. He is an APT-certified tour guide.

Kalela Williams is a writer, arts administrator, and history enthusiast hailing from the U.S. South and living in Philadelphia. For the last decade, her professional work has centered around creating pathways to literature and history through artistic and cultural programs. She is the founder of the gathering community Black History Maven, and she offers historical tours and other programs. In addition, she writes fiction that explores the landscape of African American history. Currently she is the director of writing in the ‘Mighty Writers‘ program for young people.

Following the presentations and game will be a general APT meeting.

APT meetings are open to aspiring and working tour guides as well as anyone with an interest in Philadelphia-focused history. Attend one meeting for free and then it is $50 to join the association for the year or $10 per monthly meeting in-person event. Zoom meetings are free. Please join us for convivial company, good food, fascinating presentations, and lively discussions.

Discounted rates are being offered for 2022: $25 individual membership and $100 corporate.

THE FEBRUARY APT MEETING WILL BE VIRTUAL, ON ZOOM.
