Independence Historical Trust: 50 Years of Partnership, Philanthropy, & Preservation
May 11 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 11. The meeting kicks off at 6 pm with a rare opportunity for a sneak peek inside the First Bank of the United States (3rd St. between Chestnut and Walnut Streets), led by representatives of the Independence Historical Trust (INHT). At 6:45 pm, the group will move to Philly’s Gourmet Steaks (114 Market St.) to begin the formal presentation by INHT at 7 pm.
The Independence Historical Trust (formerly the Friends of Independence NHP) was formed 50 years ago to support Independence National Historical Park as it prepared for the celebration of the Bicentennial of America. This was a unique private/public partnership and the first of its kind in the National Park Service. As the first Friends organization to a national park, it became a model for future support organizations.
Over time as the philanthropic partner, the Independence Historical Trust has acquired over 1,000 artifacts for the Park’s permanent collection, preserved countless artifacts, provided educational opportunities, and helped to open numerous buildings and exhibits. Currently, it is actively working on its biggest project to date, the restoration of the First Bank of the United States. Join Tom Caramanico, Executive Director; Maiti Gallen, Director of Operations; and Natasha Calabria, Development Communications Coordinator as they look back on the Independence Historical Trust’s past and future as well as its impact on the Park and the City of Philadelphia.
APT meetings are open to aspiring and working tour guides as well as anyone with an interest in Philadelphia-focused history. Attend one meeting for free and then it is $50 to join the association for the year or $10 per monthly meeting in-person event. Zoom meetings are free. Please join us for convivial company, good food, fascinating presentations, and lively discussions.
Discounted rates are being offered for 2022: $25 individual membership and $100 corporate.
