How to Amplify and Protect Your Voice While Giving Tours

October 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

On Wednesday, October 25, at 7 pm on Zoom, the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) is offering a ‘how-to’ workshop on voice amplification. Voice coach Rhetta Morgan will lead participants in exercises that connect the body’s natural amplification abilities to the breath and vocal support system. She will review helpful tips such as:

* Speaking slowly with intention
* Enunciating with precision
* Distinguishing the difference between supported sound and shouting

Rhetta Morgan has offered her voice for inspiration, spiritual growth, and an instrument for social change for over 40 years. Trained as a classical musician, combining a love of folk and gospel styles, she sings her unique songs in service to free, heart centered vocal expression which she lovingly shares and teaches. As a vocal coach, she has taught individuals and groups how to care for their instruments, amplification of the voice being a major focus. Rhetta has led workshops and retreats for vocal expression and community building, has taught vocal care and upkeep for professional and amateur singers, has coached and encouraged activists to access vocal expression as resistance, and has created vocal exercises and processes for voice as spiritual practice in many places, here in the States and abroad. A lifelong dream, Rhetta led singing recently in Johannesburg, South Africa, for Atlantic Fellows for Racial Equity.

Members who use voice amplification devices are encouraged to share – ahead of time with Marianne at – the make and models as well as pros and cons specific to the device so that a list can be prepared for participants. The workshop will include a discussion among members who use amplification devices on the pros and cons of their particular device as well as etiquette tips and best practices.

Cost is $5 for members and $8 for non-members. Registration is in the APT Store. (Use the ‘how to’ series button.) Zoom link will be sent to all attendees the morning of the workshop, and the session will be recorded. Please join us!
