The Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 14. Preceding the meeting is a private after-hours tour of the Pennsylvania State House better known to the city’s visitors as Independence Hall. At 5 pm a ranger from INHP will lead a tour of the Hall including the second floor.

Space is limited; email to register and include PA State House in the subject line. Those attending should arrive by 4:15 pm to go through security by 4:30 pm (allow additional time in case there is a line and be advised that security closes at 4:40 pm – 40 people are signed up for our event) and meet at the South (back) entrance. 

The actual meeting will begin at 7 pm at Philly’s Gourmet Steaks (114 Market St.) Following the State House visit, attendees will have time to grab dinner and drinks there before the meeting. The speaker will be Jennifer Gray, Visitor Services and Rental Coordinator of the Arch Street Meeting House.

Erected in 1804, Arch Street Meeting House (ASMH) embodies much of what the Philadelphia Quakers needed and wanted, but the history of ASMH is more nuanced and quirky than many visitors realize. Join Jenn as she talks through these pieces of Quaker history, including notable Philadelphia Quakers and the structure of the Meeting House as both a building and a burial spot. She hopes this talk serves as a foundation for broadening the knowledge of all visitors, both those who are somewhat familiar and novices!

Following the presentation will be a short business meeting and some social time.

APT meetings are open to aspiring and working tour guides as well as anyone with an interest in Philadelphia-focused history. Attend one meeting for free and then it is $50 to join the association for the year or $10 per monthly meeting in-person event. Zoom meetings are free.
